Wheatgrass Doesn't Have To Be Grown With Soil

Growing wheatgrass hydroponically or without soil, is one of the cheapest and easiest ways of growing wheatgrass. This is because wheatgrass is considered a sprout. You can sprout wheatgrass very much the same way you would sprout alfalfa with a few more considerations.

All you need for learn how to grow wheatgrass are organic wheatgrass seeds (they may be labeled wheat berries – check the label to make sure they are for wheatgrass growing), and two plastic stackable trays that you can pick up from any garden center, one with holes and one without.

When choosing tray for wheatgrass growing, choose the tray based on your location and volume needs. Many garden centers give away the black plastic trays that smaller plants come in, so ask around.

To start the growing wheatgrass process soak two cups wheat berries overnight (a minimum of 12 hours). The next day you should see some of the berries starting to sprout, rinse well in cold water 2-3 times for the next 2-3 days and transfer them to the tray with the holes in it. They tray without holes will be stacked underneath the tray with holes.

At this point, the root system should be long enough to prevent them from falling out of the tray. Continue to rinse the wheatgrass seeds under cold water for the next 10 days or so and make sure that the trays are receiving sunlight to absorb chlorophyll. It takes wheatgrass an average of 12 days to grow before they are ready for juicing.

Make sure that when you are juicing that you are trimming the wheatgrass and not juicing the roots as well. If there is a mold problem it would be in the root system, so by trimming, you avoid this problem.

Now that you know how to grow wheatgrass give it a try, it’s a lot easier than you think!
